How to sit correctly in your office chair

Sitting correctly in your office chair is vital to providing proper support for your spine, lower back, and neck.

Many office workers often complain of back pain, which in most cases is due to the chair not being properly positioned. Even if you have an ergonomic chair that has been specially designed for comfort, you still need to make sure you have it configured to fit your workplace. There are also many ergonomically designed office chairs these days, so you really do have a wide variety to choose from.

The first thing you need to do is sit in your chair in front of your computer screen. She closes her eyes and then slowly opens them; the line of your eyes should point towards the center of the screen. If this is not the case, you can place some large books under the screen to correct this. If you skip this step, you could be putting unnecessary strain on your neck: Your head actually weighs about the same as a bowling ball, so it puts a lot of strain on your neck if you’re constantly looking down.

Second, you need to make sure you’re sitting in your chair, not halfway. By placing your lower back against the back of the chair, you offer your lower back additional support. Once you’ve made sure you’re sitting correctly, place your elbows on the table; they should be at an angle of 90 degrees; if not, the height of the chair may need to be adjusted slightly.

Push yourself under the table (your thighs should not touch the table) again, if this is the case your chair height needs a slight adjustment. Your feet should also be flat on the floor. If you have shorter legs, maybe you could invest in a footrest.

Once you’re happy with your position, make sure all of your computer equipment is properly positioned around you; you shouldn’t have to stretch too far to reach anything.

Once you’ve completed these steps, it should take a lot of stress off your back. But remember: you should also have regular breaks from your desk. Regular breaks will ensure that you stretch your legs and increase the flow of your blood supply. Ergonomic chairs can be useless if you don’t set them up correctly!
