The HTC Incredible S: the perfect multimedia phone

Without the hype of mobile launches like the Motorola Defy and LG Optimus 3D, the new HTC Incredible S has slipped quietly under the spotlight, but managed to steal much of the limelight thanks to clever design coupled with a host of features. any manufacturer would be proud to fit on their devices.

With multimedia facilities playing a big part in the makeup of modern mobiles, it’s nice to see that this model really exceeds expectations in this area. One area that is often overlooked is audio playback, despite the fact that many phones are used as music players. The Incredible S supports multiple audio file formats, including MP3, AAC+ and WAV, as well as offering the excellent alternative of an RDS FM radio if you want to tune in to a local or national radio station. A 3.5mm headphone jack ensures that you are free to choose which headset to use with your phone. In terms of track storage, the device is a bit light on the storage side by offering just 1GB of capacity, however thanks to a micro SD card slot this can easily be expanded up to 32GB.

This space is not only great for music, but also for video and photography, both areas where this phone performs well. Photo quality is high at 8 megapixels, with an average smartphone like the Samsung galaxy S offering only 5 million. It’s not just about resolution though, the camera needs the tools to help achieve the perfect photograph, so the presence of autofocus, dual LED flash and image stabilization help achieve great results. Video can be captured in HD quality, which has become the benchmark for all good smartphones, meaning 720P resolution is offered.

The HTC Incredible S offers the brand’s own Sense user interface on this model, simplifying the way you use the phone. Coupled with the Android OS on offer, this works like a dream. The whole principle of “Sense” is to make the phone work in a simpler and more natural way. An example of this is the jump view offered, a method of displaying multiple home screens in a single overview, allowing you to simply choose the one you need without scrolling through many pages. The fact that this unit runs on Android means there’s a huge collection of stuff and apps available for download, and HTC also insists that the phone will have an update available to version 2.3. A 4-inch TFT screen displays a high-quality resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

HTC’s Incredible S continues the rise of brands to the top of the smartphone tree. As a multimedia phone it is excellent and also excels in other areas such as connectivity and display.
