How to grill a fish

Apart from vegetables and poultry, fish as a part of shellfish is also in demand when it comes to grilling, probably because it cooks easily, is healthy and offers a pleasant taste. Boiled, fried or steamed fish taste fresh and mild, not to mention that it is now grilled. Here are some guidelines to educate you on direct grilling, grill hygiene, and taking advantage of available accessories to make grilling fun and enjoyable.

Direct Roast

For grilled fish, we recommend swordfish or tuna for starters as they don’t fall apart or break easily compared to other fish. You can place them right on top of the fire, but pay attention to the fire because if the flame is too big, it can overcook the fish, so keep an eye on the flame. Have the fire ready first before placing the fish on the grill. Apply a little olive oil to prevent it from staining or sticking to the grill. This can save you trouble when you want to clean the grill after use.

The size of the fish should be at least 1 inch thick and wide enough to ensure it doesn’t fall onto the grill and burn. To check if the fish is cooked and ready to eat, poke it with a fork and look for any stains on the fork itself.

grill hygiene

Practicing good hygiene on the grill will help you have a clean piece of fish or other food. It can also prevent you from getting diarrhea or gastroenteritis from contaminated food or drink. There are three guidelines for you:

First, make sure the grill has been preheated before placing any food on the grill. Secondly, after preheating the grill, make sure that the food, for example a fish, has been lightly greased with virgin olive oil to prevent staining and sticking to the grill. Last but not least, remember to clean the grill with a scrub and cleaning products. You don’t want to eat the residue left over from the last grill activity.

make use of props

A fish basket is used to put the fish in a cage like a grill and makes it cook evenly on all sides more easily. For even more flavor, feel free to add some healthy flavors like lemongrass, seasoning, herbs to enhance the flavor.
