Golfers – Trust your swing

Have you ever seen a 5 year old try to hit a golf ball? They grab the club down near the clubhead and take a little bump, actually a push with one foot, just to make sure the clubhead is on the ball. Swinging the club is too risky for them. They want the tool to get as close to the object as possible.

They will find out when they grow up. Or will they?

The pros say trust your swing. Simply tackle the ball and walk away. You do? Really? I know not.

Earlier this year I made some swing modifications that paid off. He was hitting these rockets that had the slightest hint of attraction, over and over again. I have never hit the ball better than that. Last summer, 80 was the lowest score I could shoot, but this term, 80 was the highest. But I backed away from that swing. Why?

Because one of the modifications was to get my right shoulder back. Far back where it belongs, not staying up front where all the fun is. She was hitting from behind and it scared me. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to get the clubhead back on the ball.

I knew I was hitting shots any recreational golfer would be proud of, maybe even die of, but it was too much. What I hadn’t learned to do, apparently never learned to do, was trust my swing.

That was three months ago. I’m back on the road now, taking it slower. Lots of practice swings, no ball, just to get used to the motion and feel like it’s really my motion. Taking possession of her.

It starts to feel like a normal swing now, the swing you could do without warming up. The swing that just comes out when I’m not thinking about it, which is the swing you want to play with, because under the pressure of playing, you tend to go around the wagons and make your swing more careful, which you trust. , even if you know it’s not your best swing.

I want to make my best swing, and the swing I trust is the same swing.

And you?
