Damon & Naomi

Indie folk/dream pop duo Damon & Naomi were formed in 1991 and have released four albums on Sub Pop. The duo never intended to go solo; after their first album More Sad Hits, they were ready to put down their instruments and concentrate on Exact Change. Producer Jonathan Poneman urged the duo to continue recording. The resulting album, Translucent Carriages, was well received and earned a spot on the ‘Best of’ list.

After releasing “Ghost”, the duo went on tour with the band and recorded some tracks before splitting. Their album was released in May 2001 on Rough Trade and included a DVD tour diary. After this, they formed a new band called The Silence, which included Masaki Batoh and Michio Kurihara. This album was a great collaboration with Ghost, and it was a critical and commercial success.

After Ghost’s breakup, Damon & Naomi collaborated with the Japanese band Ghost, releasing a split-CD in May 2001. This release also featured the band’s guitarist Michio Kurihara on guitar. In addition to the new album, the duo went on tour with the Ghost band, and the Japanese tour was also recorded for a DVD. The new single, “Translucent Carriages,” was a huge success.

After releasing their second album, Translucent Carriages, the duo collaborated with the Japanese band Ghost. The duo recorded the album at the Kali studios in May 2001. The two toured with the Ghost band and brought the guitarist, Masaki Batoh, along. This collaboration helped the band experiment with new folk music formats, and showcased their growing sound. The two members eventually teamed up with Ghost on a joint tour in Japan.

After releasing their debut album, Damon & Naomi toured with the Japanese band Ghost and released a collaborative album with Ghost in May 2001. The album also featured the band’s guitarist Michio Kurihara and an avant-garde brass section. The two toured extensively in Japan, and their tour was captured on a limited edition DVD. The band’s next project was “Translucent Carriages”.

While the duo released four albums on Sub Pop, the band never intended to stay together. After More Sad Hits, they had decided to call it quits and focus on Exact Change, but they were convinced to keep going by a manager named Jonathan Poneman. The duo toured the UK and Japan for three years, and recorded a live DVD of their tour in Tokyo.

As a matter of fact, Damon & Naomi’s first collaboration with Ghost was a success. After meeting in 1995, they began working on a collaboration that would lead to a new album. In the meantime, they started a book publishing company, Exact Change, and published several Kafka ephemera. Then, they released a new album with their first collaboration – Live in San Sebastian (1997).
