Disneyland Vacation Tips: Discover 10 Little-Known Facts About Disneyland

By the time you finish reading these Disneyland vacation tips, you’ll know 10 little-known facts about Disneyland. Everyone loves to be “in on the secret.” Now you will have a great start in becoming an expert in the secrets of Disneyland.

10. Mickey heads are everywhere, hidden Mickeys are everywhere… but did you know that if it’s obvious, it’s probably not a hidden Mickey?

That’s right, a Mickey face or Mickey head that is an obvious part of the setting would not be considered hidden. Look for Mickey heads in strange places. A good place to start looking would be in the architecture of the park and as you look at areas where your attention would otherwise be drawn (like a fort wall when passing Pirate’s of the Caribbean!)

9. Walt Disney had an apartment built above the Main Street Fire Station.

He used it often before he passed away and visitors knew it was there because there was a light on in the upstairs window. The light is now left on as a tribute to Walt.

8. Actual movie props and other movie memorabilia can be found throughout the park.

Once upon a time, the actual setting for the movie “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” was on display in Tomorrowland. Parts of this set are now used in the Haunted Mansion.

7. As you ride the Disneyland Railroad to the New Orleans Square Station, you can hear a telegraph being sent.

The message is part of Walt Disney’s dedication speech on Disneyland’s opening day.

6. Sleeping Beauty Castle is built in the very center of Disneyland.

As you make your way through the entrance, look for a gold marker for the exact center of Disneyland. Another bit of information: the drawbridge is a working drawbridge.

5. Imagineers use “forced perspective” to give buildings (and Sleeping Beauty Castle!) the appearance of being life-size.

You can see this if you look very closely at the buildings along Main Street, USA.

4. The Haunted Mansion is underground!

When guests enter the “stretch room”, they are actually traveling underground. At the end of the trip, they are taken back by a moving walkway.

3. Not all lines are the same.

Some attractions have two lines. Not only is one ride different from the other, but one side is faster than the other. Try to figure out which is which on your next trip!

2. Mickey Mouse is never in two places at once.

For the most part, you can find him at his house in Toontown.

1. There is an exclusive “members only” club above Pirate’s of the Caribbean.

Club 33 is a very exclusive membership club located across the boardwalk from Pirate’s of the Caribbean. Once a big secret twenty years ago, many know about the 33 Club.
