The search for my own thermos Gott

I started looking for a Gott Thermos after seeing a friend bring an old stainless steel one to work, claiming it can keep his coffee boiling for forty-eight hours straight. The stainless steel Gott thermos he brought from home doesn’t have a single discernible scratch or dent, which is strange given his claim that the aforementioned thermos is over 20 years old. Either Gott’s thermoses are extremely durable to the point of being indestructible or they had him locked up in a time capsule all these years.

My first destinations were the two travel stores near my house, which carried a multitude of brand-name thermoses and coolers, but no Gott. In one of the stores, the staff was not even familiar with the Gott brand of thermos and claimed that the only Gott they know of is a brand of plastic water coolers. The other store had apparently knowledgeable staff who suggested I try looking at Amazon.com or any reputable online store.

Amazon only had a used replacement lid for the Gott thermos as the only result, and didn’t even have a photo. The other result was a used Gott water can that looked like it was made a couple of hundred years ago and was priced like it really was. I didn’t want to buy it, and even if I did, I won’t be able to unless I suddenly find out that I’m Donald Trump’s long-lost son, and that he’s suddenly left me a couple million dollars as an inheritance. .

eBay had similar disappointing search results. The only result I got was for a plastic Gott water cooler that used “gott thermos” as the label. It would have fit my purposes as it can be used for both hot and cold liquids. But he wasn’t just looking for cooling properties or functionality; He was obsessed with finding a real Gott thermos. If you wanted other coolers or thermoses, there are more accessible, probably cheaper, brands available everywhere.

Finally, a random Google search turned up a forum post explaining that Gott thermoses are no longer being manufactured, as the company now focuses on plastic coolers and jugs, and is now under the Rubbermaid brand, with competing products. directly with Coleman and Igloo. . Further investigation showed that I have very little chance of finding a real stainless steel Gott thermos these days and that they have become a highly sought after item among collectors.

It was a disappointing search, and I guess now I have no choice but to forget about having my own stainless steel Gott thermos or, if I’m really lucky, my co-worker may have no idea how rare his thermos is, and I might buy it for a mere fraction of what it would normally cost under the current circumstances. I may still have a chance to own an old stainless steel Gott thermos.
