Have you heard? Flyers Up 3-1 in the Series!

In Montreal, the Canadians would do just the opposite of what they did in their home opener of the series, putting on an unforgettable performance as they slipped into a 3-1 hole. In game 3, they flew out with a 17-shot flurry in the first period of play, totaling 38 for the game and winning 5-1.

In today’s game, they only managed to get 17 total shots off Michael Leighton as they could only manage one shot on goal in the second. The result would be a 3-0 loss and a 3-1 series deficit. The Canadians will have their backs against the wall once again, as they did in the previous two series against the No. 1 seed Washington Capitals and defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Those series were only down one game, this time they are down two.

In today’s match, Claude Giroux would open the scoring and end it with his second of the day when he sent one into the empty net. Chris Pronger would count an assist on a beautiful pass that he lobbed across the floor to catch Ville Leino in stride to get away, as he was able to slip past Jaroslav Halek’s stretched pads for a 2-0 Flyers lead. Pronger also racked up minutes totaling 31:07. His timing, awareness and playmaking ability were good enough to earn the game’s number one star honors.

Game 5 will return to Philadelphia, where the Flyers will have a chance to close out the series and head to the Stanley Cup Finals.

One game can make a world of difference, and the Flyers know that all too well. If they lose that penalty shootout in the final game of the regular season against the New York Rangers, they’ll be looking at the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. If they win one more game, they’ll play in the Stanley Cup Finals!
