Finally a decent Motorola phone! Introducing the Motorola RIZR Z10

The Motorola RIZR Z10 is a welcome return to form for the beleaguered Motorola. The phone’s features are user-oriented and include a scratch-resistant screen, 16 million color display, video (QVGA 30fps), Symbian UIQ, unlimited phonebook and 3G. Motorola’s attention to detail is impressive. For example, the kick-open slider mechanism tilts the headset into a curved position to make calling as comfortable as possible. At 115g (12g lighter than the previous Z8 model), this is a lightweight phone but it still manages to feel substantial and durable.

Although the Motorola RIZR Z10 has been described as a smartphone, it seems to be more geared towards the fashion market. It focuses on photos and videos, but handles both with varying degrees of success. The Z10 is a complete pocket-sized mobile movie studio with the ability to record high-quality video clips. You can edit and create transitions between scenes and even add a soundtrack and title slides. While the Z10 would be an excellent option for vloggers (you can upload your creations directly to the Internet), the camera may disappoint you. It’s a not-so-bad 3.2-megapixel, but it doesn’t quite compare to the likes of the Nokia N95 and Samsung U900 Soul. That being said, most people won’t need a 5-megapixel camera unless they’re printing large photos.

In conclusion, the RIZR Z10 definitely won’t steal customers from BlackBerry or iPhone, but it is a very capable phone. The inclusion of Symbian and 3G elevates the phone above other ‘fashionable’ phones like the Prada LG. The Motorola RIZR Z10 would be the perfect phone for people who want a feature-packed phone, rather than a smartphone. For more information, check out our overview of the Motorola RIZR Z10
