Battlefield 2142, created by Digital Illusions CE as the fourth in the Battlefield series of first-person shooter games, and set in the 22nd century, during which the European Union (EU) and the Pan-Asian Coalition (PAC); two military superpowers, battle for survival.
With the multiplayer game design, the game offers 64 players on one server, or 16 single-mode combat bots in Conquest mode. Like Battlefield 2, user stats can be used in a ranking system, but unlike 2, it launches new categories of weapons and vehicles. The game also offers an unlock feature that allows the player to choose a new unlock each time he gains a new rank instead of having to purchase the item. Additionally, EA Games offers Northern Strike, a new booster pack with new vehicles, maps, and unlocks.
Battlefield 2142 offers two game modes. One is Conquest, the other Titan, which can be played online on multiplayer maps. Each mode supports up to 64 players relative to the server a player uses to connect. The single player mode allows up to 16, with 15 AI bots. There are 4 different player kits, each with separate weapons and equipment just for that kit, and each kit has a base and secondary weapon, plus a knife unlike in Battlefield 2; The nameplates of the player who is the killer go to that killer. By earning points in the game, each player can earn rank, options, and equipment. Through customization, Battlefield 2142 becomes more effective as players can get more unlocks with a single kit. Within the classes, each one has two unlockable weapons and a passive unlock that improves the soldier’s helmet, and each helmet upgrade has different functions. Upgrading a soldier’s helmet will benefit from sharing it with his squad mates.
Assault: Combined, the Assault and Medic classes from Battlefield 2 become the Assault kit in Battlefield 2142. Assault rifles with unlockable shotgun or rocket add-ons are the primary weapons. Advanced First Aid Kits (which can be used to restore the health of those nearby), smoke grenades for detection, and a defibrillator to bring back fallen comrades; are the other unlocks. The Assault Kit Helmet Upgrade allows Soldiers to find out what type of kit the enemy is using and provides the appropriate icon above the “Enemy Detected” marker.
Recon – Battlefield 2 Special Forces and Sniper Classes combine to form the Recon Kit for Battlefield 2142. Sniper Rifles are the primary weapons, plus there is an unlockable carbine for close range battles.
Engineer: Once again, the combination of the Battlefield 2 Anti-Tank and Engineer classes makes up the Engineer kit in Battlefield 2142, and the maneuverable anti-vehicle rocket launcher is the default weapon.
Support: The Battlefield 2142 Support Kit is basically the same as the Battlefield 2 Support class.
Maps – All ten maps in Battlefield 2142 include three new maps included in the Northern Strike Booster Pack.
