Words will fail to enumerate the greatness of the Divine Saint, the great Vadalur Vallalar.

Tholuvore Velayudam mudaliar was his ardent disciple. He has written Vallalar’s biography in a lucid style. This is an authenticated one too. Velayudam mudaliar worked at the Madras Presidency University as a Tamil expert.

He composed 66 verses in which he recounts the greatness of Vallalar.

How he became a disciple of this great saint is an interesting episode. Once he brought a hundred verses composed by him with puns and that too in the old Tamil style to Vallalar. To test Vallalar, he told her that these verses were on some old palm leaves. On one of the sheets it was found that they were sung by the great Tamil poets of the Sangam era.”

The Sangam age was supposed to be the oldest period of Tamils ​​and Tamil poetic words could not be easily understood.

Vallalar passed through the leaves. He then immediately retorted to Mudaliyar, “These are not poets of the Sangam period at all. A novice who doesn’t even know the basics of Tamil grammar has written these verses. There are so many mistakes that no one could count.”

Mudaliyar trembled and fell at his feet and from then on he became an ardent devotee of Vallalar and spent his time with him until his last moments.

Hundreds of miracles were performed by the great saint. Once, one of his disciples named Sahanmugam Pillai was looking for him at night because they did not find him in his room. He came out and had seen various parts of his body in different places. Seeing this, Shanmugam cried out that something disastrous had happened to his Guru. But Vallalar gathered his body and appeared before him as usual. He warned him not to search like this at night.

Thiruvorriyur is a famous shrine. Vallalar used to go to the temple to worship the Goddess. There was a naked man in Car Street. He used to see the men and women walking down that street and comment: “here is a dog, this is a cow, this is a donkey.” Vallalar, who used to go a different route normally, once chose the car street route. The naked man immediately declared: “Ah! Here comes a MAN” and with both hands covered his body in a way of showing great respect. That naked man must be a yogi. Seeing Vallalar, he left the place and everyone started talking about how he was so far away waiting to see the holy sight of the great saint.

Vallalar’s life is full of incidents. He was a great alchemist. Everything he touches turns to gold. But he very rarely showed his mysterious powers to others..

He was praised by theosophists. Velayudam mudaliyar has given a beautiful statement to the author of ‘Advice on Esoteric Theosophy on Vallalar’. When this statement was published in the magazine. In the July 1882 number of ‘The Theosophist’, Madame HP Blavatsky has paid glorious homage and stressed that her prophecy has been fulfilled.
