Top Ten Strengths of Women Returning to the Workplace

Women returning to the workforce are often underappreciated, in part due to society’s view that if you’re not in the paid workforce, you’re “doing nothing.”

The other part of this equation is because after a few years of mainly taking care of children and household chores, many women find that their self-esteem and self-confidence is low in terms of what they have to offer in the world. labor.

But as any savvy employer knows, a woman who returns to the workplace brings with her extremely valuable skills and qualities.

1. Multitasking:

Any woman running a home and family needs to be able to do at least 16 different things at once!

The next time you see a young mom at the grocery store with a couple of young kids, take time to notice how many tasks she’s doing at once. This is skill and a half and immensely valuable in the world.

And that’s all before getting to the checkout, where none of the kids want to wait, and then getting everyone and everything to the car.

2. Troubleshooter, Emergency Management, Troubleshooting:

Little problems look like big problems to little people! Mom has to handle endless ’emergencies’ and some real ones too, not to mention issues like getting the peanut and jelly sandwich out of the VCR (or worse, the DVD player!)

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what a stay-at-home mom has to do.

3. Managerial, Initiative, Self-directed:

She manages the family, the house, the meals and everything else in the home. She has no instructions, no training, and no expert to turn to (unless she is her own mother).

4. Organized, Inventory Control:

Where is? How much do we need? Keeping track of everything and anything is also your job. How do we get Jason to play softball and Janet ballet on opposite sides of town at the same time?

5. Creative, innovative and lifelong learner:

Finding ways where no ways have been found before (to egregiously spoil the Star Trek saying!) If there’s something you don’t know you need to know, you learn it, you create it, you invent it.

6. Money management, budgeting:

Whether rich or financially challenged, money still needs to be managed and budgets still need to be maintained. Whether it’s just the weekly grocery bill or when to buy a designer outfit, budgeting is always an integral part of the job.

7. Reliability, Stability, Sense of Responsibility:

Children implicitly trust and are totally dependent on Mom being there when she says she will and taking care of what they need. Even the least trustworthy woman becomes much more responsible when she has a family to take care of.

8. Organization of events:

Ah, those parties. Birthday parties, Christmas parties, picnics, even holidays – Mom is in charge of organizing, making it fun, and preparing and assembling it all.

9. Mediator, Interpersonal Skills:

Kids fight! Mom has to calm the dust, restore order, arrange compromises, and do it all to a very unsophisticated audience that only wants what she wants.

10. Coach, mentor, teacher:

Mothers teach by instructing, helping, and also modeling the behavior they want. Mothers can teach people who don’t want to learn it and establish it as a habit. Now that’s a skill!

Children learn more from their parents than from school, although different things most of the time. Never underestimate a mother’s role as a teacher.
